EMT Trauma Kits Are Vital In Life And Death Situations

By Michael Obrien

If you are an emergency medical technician or if you are a student nurse or in a fire fighting training course, chances are you will be looking at getting your own medical kit to do the job. Whichever you are doing, it is important that you have the right EMT trauma kits at your disposal.

Trauma kits usually come standard with the essentials in them. If you are the first person to get to an emergency situation, you will know just how important it is that you have as much in your bag as possible. When arriving at an accident scene, as a trainee, you will be able to do some of the basic treatments before the paramedics arrive.

Many times it is the medical attention that is given within the first 60 minutes which plays an important role in saving a life. It is commonly called the "golden hour". As a trainee, you should be able to carry out some important work on any accident or emergency victims that you may come across.

If you, as a trainee, arrive at an emergency scene, you are advised to carry out some form of medical treatment. You would be expected to stop any form of bleeding with the contents of your medical kit. This is why it is a good idea to have as many of the essential items needed for offering any kind of help.

Should you, as a trainee emergency worker get to an accident scene first, it would be expected that you tend to some of the victims. Therefore, it is important to have all your medical equipment with you at all times. You may even find that people who know you carry your kit with you will even call on you for your expertise.

In the basic trauma kit, one will only find a few of the things you need to stabilize a patient. Usually you will have the basics for the procedures you need to get done. As a trainee medic, you should know what to do with basic equipment in a medic kit. It is your responsibility to make sure you know how to work with the items you have, and under no circumstances should you attempt something you are not trained in.

If you are in the emergency field, you will no doubt know what you should have in your basic kit. The extreme emergency kit which is found in ambulances, is obviously better equipped to carry out more extensive medical help. They should stock things like airway packs and chest seals.

EMT trauma kits will have supplies such as airway and quick clot equipment, as well as chest seals and much more. As a medical technician, you will have to see to it that you re-stock you bag after every call-out. For situations such as the Boston bombings of late, it is important for medical personnel to know that their kit is properly equipped. No one wants to open an emergency supply bag, only to find out that it is half empty or does not have the equipment needed to tend to an accident victim of any kind.
