Why Is Sobriety Important?

By Tina Bacon

Children often walk into living rooms seeing their fathers getting high on drugs. This is a problem that is happening all across America today. People are choosing to do drugs in the wide open where everyone can see. Unfortunately, this kind of drug abuse causes family members to react the same. It is important to understand that everything that you do effects another person completely. Many addicts find that a sobriety program has to help them to get to the next level of their lives. They must see a reason for overcoming their painful past. In some way, sobriety will help them to overcome a lot of the pain that they were once involved in.

Many people often ask themselves if they can be drug free. It is a questions that has a lot of addicts talking these days. The main reason is because most people in today's world don't know how to get sober. Heroin is a highly addictive drug that keeps on causing the body to want more. If a person gets high on heroin and falls asleep, they can actually have a lethal overdose. Heroin has claimed the lives of many celebrities. Cocaine has also destroyed the lives of many bank executives and wealthy people. Cocaine is an expensive street drugs that is often purchased by people that have lots of money coming in. A cocaine habit may cost you well over $60,000 per year. A small dosage of heroin often costs $10.00. The effect often lasts for around 30 minutes and then the addict needs another hit. This becomes an expensive drug over time. If someone is addicted to heroin badly, the addiction may cost them around $200.00 a day.

It is important for addicts to find their own path when it comes to sobriety. The founder of Alcoholics Anonymous (Bill Wilson) found his sober path. It was a path that he did not fully understand or even come to know right away. He found that his faith is what kept him sober. He tried going into hospital treatment programs that never worked for him. Doctors even told him that if didn't stop drinking, he was going to die. He found a personal relationship with his Lord and savior Jesus Christ. After that happened, he started to live a sober life.

Your family is counting on you to make the right decision. Families that have addicts living with them often say that they are trying to help their loved one to get better. This is a tough case for most people to handle since they do not understand addiction entirely. Most family members wonder why their dads can't stop taking drugs. It is true that once a person's body gets addicted to a drug such as heroin, they actually crave the drug. They desire the drug more and expect a higher dose each time. The body will need medically supervised detox in order to get off the drug entirely.

I believe in sobriety 100%. You must encourage your family members to go to rehab if they are having a problem with addiction. It takes an entire families help to get the addict into a program that works well for them. The world is full of people that are hurting from addiction. If you are a father, please take it upon yourself to get help. Your child needs you to show them the way to sobriety. If you have an addiction, they will often have an addiction as well. Everything takes time to figure out and sobriety is often the best way of getting help for you and a loved one.
