Florida gets a lot of tourists due to its wonderful warm weather and its beautiful natural environment. One common activity that most people engage in is camping because the State has parks that offer great sites. One of the popular sites is the Suwannee River campground. It provides a great way to bring people together and appreciate the natural peaceful world.

Suwannee River is one of the major streams in Florida. It is about 246 miles long and it holds much history for the State since it is the prehistoric Suwanee Straits and it contains the historic civil war cemetery which harbors the remains of inhabitants of the nineteenth century Columbus town. It is part of the Florida State Park system and this park offers many recreational activities. The limestone outcroppings create a whitewater rapid that is quite rare and exquisite to watch.

Camping is popular in this part of the state because the campsites offer opportunities for many recreational activities in a beautiful peaceful environment. There is a long wild scenic trail along the river and the various wild trails are a great hiking place. The stream is home to various aquatic lives such as fish and turtles. Wild animals and various species of birds are also present.

Other recreation activities that most campsites offer include fishing, canoeing, kayaking and picnics. However, there are regulations that govern boating and fishing along the river that everyone must adhere too. Most sites offer facilities and equipments that are used to facilitate the above recreational activities. They also offer amenities facilities such as bath houses, rest rooms, drinking water and waste disposal facilities.

A variety of other facilities that are also provided include picnic tables, grills, restaurant, volley ball, basket ball pitch, stables, horseshoes, boat ramps, canoe outposts fire rings and electricity. Most sites allow pets as long as they are leashed while some require the pet to be vaccinated. Primitive campsites are also available and this means that there are no flush toilets and hot showers.

While camping basically involves having a tent and food, there are some guidelines that one must follow in different states. In Florida, there are some rules that a person must follow when they engage in fishing, hunting and boating. Feeding of wild animals is not allowed and a person must not leave their litter around that can damage the wildlife. In some places tent campers are not allowed and there are age restrictions too.

Some campsites gear their activities to favor a certain group of people. You will find some sites recommending their place for families or large groups such as schools and organizations. Each ground has its own rules which may include maintaining of silence at late night hours, self disposal of waste and use of camp fire. Some of the rules are basic common sense regulations. For example, one is supposed to assume the river water is unhealthy and avoid taking it.
