Get a title every time you buy a vehicle specially if this is not a brand new one. You would be having a hard time getting a regular title from the department if you did not receive the title of the seller. There is a possibility that the seller does not possess it because the vehicle was purchased through loan and the one holding it is the lienholder which would not release it if the loan is not paid.

Changes made to your address when moving out to another location must be reported within thirty days as the law has provided you. This allows you to continue receiving important notifications such as registration reminders for renewal from the DMV and other notices. Not doing so would not let you receive these important notifications that can result in you being fined for something you do not know.

File a release of liability when you transfer the ownership of the vehicle or sell it because this is required by law. Your plates can be put on a new one you would acquire and buying another plate is unnecessary.

Bring proper identification cards when visiting the DMV for registration which has your full name and an identifying number. If there is a second owner appearing on the document, bring their license number and identification card number.
