Things To Know About The Burden Of Gratitude

By Michael Anderson

Being grateful for something can mean many different things to different people, but it is hard to think of the act of gratefulness as a sort of pain or something that burdens us. While it is true that being grateful has many benefits, it is also true that there are some struggles and challenges that go along with it. There are many avenues to take in order to learn more about the burden of gratitude.

Novels are not only entertaining, they can also be a great way of helping a person understand something complicated about life. It can be hard to understand just what gratefulness truly means and what it can demand of a person until it is seen through the eyes of a character. Some books also give readers a more omniscient point of view.

While being grateful is important, there are times in a person's life when the expectation of gratefulness can have negative impacts on a person's happiness. A great novel that portrays this kind of experience is called Mansfield Park, and it was written by the widely-known author Jane Austen. In the book, the main character Fanny is expected to be very grateful for the good fortune she has come into, and she comes to resent that expectation.

It is very difficult to be thankful for the food on one's plate when that person knows and feels guilty that there are people in the world who are starving. While this might seem like it would help to motivate a person to help starving people and contribute in other ways to make the person feel less guilty, this is not the case. Generally, when guilt is associated with gratefulness, the person tends to go into denial and avoid the thought altogether.

Sometimes when a person does another person a favor, it can feel like something must be done in return. There are some things in life that are gifts, and those are given free of charge with nothing expected back. Avoiding this sense of obligation can make a person more grateful.

When someone does a favor for another person, even when that person freely gives their time and energy, the recipient of the favor can feel resentment. This is due to a combination of reasons that have been instilled in the minds of most people. A lot of times, the person will feel put down or like they owe something.

There are times when it is hard to be grateful, and sometimes it can be used against a person. There are times when proactive measures can be taken, like writing a thank you card, making a simple phone call, or contributing to a local organization. However, for things that are out of a person's control, it is best to abandon the guilt.

There are some people who will do nice or generous things for a person and then expect that person to do something illegal or immoral in return. Sometimes that person will not know what to do and may be pressured into bad decisions. The best thing to do is refrain from contact with that person.
