We Have A Talk About Drag Handlebars

By Susan McDonald

They literally are an important part of a motorcycle if it was not so obvious enough already. More precisely, the ones called handlebars are. Those are tubular components that affect our steering mechanism whenever we drive one. Those objects provide a mounting place that takes control. Kind of like rear view mirrors, light switches, horn, clutch, throttle an brake. Now, how about those that are called Drag Handlebars?

Technically speaking, they bear the same purposes except the latter is much longer. They actually are straight and longer than the normal types. Their purpose? Other than to make the driver look cool is to make steering a bit easier and for a strange step of fashion sense. They certainly do not do well for those with back problems.

The former does not curve like the latter. While the latter is designed in a way to make the rider have lesser back problems, the opposite could probably be said for the former. Harleys are made so that its rider could be sitting straight and grip their bars while being far away from the front of it.

Beach bar is another type. They almost are the same as cruisers that slope backward and curve. They are like that so the rider can relax and does not have to reach for anything just to get to freaking somewhere. Although, if they are put on those bikes that make a lot of noise, then is it really worth it?

Jokes and old memes aside, that is usually how those motorcycles are ridden. The reason has something to do with the position making it easier for everything to go as fast as the driver wants. If you want to get technical on how that actually works, we could get a few examples of how it goes.

This has something to do with the point of gravity. So we suppose if the drag bars purpose is to give its rider the increase of speed, then it is doing it right. This makes a point that it might be a little difficult for them to have a second passenger behind them. Would that not force them to crouch too?

That would effectively mean they have to literally lay on top of them from behind. As funny and hilarious as that sounds, it kind of negates any sense of safety and comfort when going at a certain kilometer per hour. It makes for a perfect picture though. Imagine all your friends laughing because of that.

Still, the bars serve its purpose. They also come in grips that are comfy when you need to clench it harder than normal. People do that, especially when the amount of speed they are going is exceeding some sort of limit. Sometimes, they need it to keep themselves grounded especially when riding like that gives them a sort of adrenaline rush.

The good thing about that is that you will no longer have a problem about friends wanting to ride as a passenger. Unless they want to crouch and practically lay on top of you, then tough luck. It marginally is better to drive without a passenger anyway.
