TV Power Supply Fixing Guide

By Ryan Sullivan

Certain reasons may drive you to repair your television. This includes your device powering itself off or taking a long time to get reception when you turn it on. The good thing is that such problems can be resolved by repairing the TV power supply. The process is not very hard when you have proper guidelines.

There is certain tools that are required for you to do the repair easily. This includes a soldering iron, screwdriver, solder, capacitor, and solder sucker. Check whether your toolbox includes all of this equipment. If they are missing, you may have to visit an electronic shop to buy them. Check to see where exactly the problem is for you to know what should be repaired. For device power supplies, the capacitors are normally the problem and can leak preventing the monitor from being powered.

After you have unplugged the television from the power source, place it with the monitor facing down on an area so that the screen is not damaged. Loosen all of the screws that you see on the back panel by use of a screwdriver. Once you have removed all of them, remove the back panel of your device and place it aside. You may have to wiggle it as there are no bolts securing it.

Check where the circuit board is by keenly following its connection to the power cord. You should then loosen the bolts and connectors attached on the board with the help of a screwdriver. You ought to take note on their connection so that you correctly reattach them. Take pictures of the connection to help you during reattachment to prevent you from forgetting. Once the connectors and bolts are loosened, disconnect the circuit board.

Locate the faulty capacitors. They are cylinder-shaped and vary in width and height. Most of them appear normal and therefore look for ones with a brown-yellow liquid coming from the top, or it has bulged at the top. This is an indication that the capacitors have overheated and are the cause of the fault. Remove them ensuring that you do not damage copper pads.

Once you remove the faulty ones, use the new ones to replace them. Take note of the positive polarity and negative polarity when substituting them. You should then indicate the negative leads that are on the board using the soldering iron. The negative section is characterized by a grey stripe. Since the capacitors are polarity sensitive, make sure they are installed well.

Once you have done the replacement, the device should be reassembled, and then the power checked. After the connectors have been interchanged and the bolts and back panel reattached, determine if the fault has been rectified. A power surge will definitely cause the fuse to blow. If you notice that the problem has not been fixed, consider checking its fuse. Ensure that you replace it with an appropriate one.

If the issue has not been resolved, consider replacing the circuit board. If the circuit board has been destroyed, your device will not be able to work effectively. Prior to replacing it, you need to know the correct steps to be followed. This prevents you from further damaging your television.
