Teaching is a fulfilling career because not only does it provide opportunities for personal growth, it also allows a teacher to make a difference in the life of the child. To be an effective educator, it is best to incorporate Christian education principles for teachers at every stage of designing and implementing the lesson with the students. Here are some tips.

Creating a good lesson plan starts with understanding what the learners really need. Although usually, there is already a schedule that has to be followed, a teacher should still be sensitive to the individual needs to his students. He should also know the level of understanding or the background of his students regarding the subject matter.

Although lessons for grade school and high school are almost the same for a specific level every year, this should not make the teacher complacent in just reusing previous lesson plans year after year. He should gather relevant materials from textbooks and researches to review and update his knowledge. There may also be new trends regarding the subject that are available through videos and pod casts.

When designing the lesson plan, various resources can be useful in coming up with several unique examples for the topic. Make sure that the discussions are properly spaced so that complicated topics are being taught in chunks to make them easier to comprehend. Do not forget to include guide questions and quizzes to check for understanding. A facilitator guide will help you go through the lessons within your timetable.

Learning should be fun for the learners in order to encourage retention and understanding. Fun learning activities can include games, roles play and some forms of group work. Short games can be used to introduce a topic and can even gauge the learners prior knowledge on a subject. While it is encouraged to used games that are relevant to the topic, almost any game can help in the holistic development of an individual.

The educator should be sensitive to individual and group learning challenges. When the learning difficulty occurs in almost everyone from the class, the problem may be in the lesson structure or implementation of the lesson. This can be remedied to additional learning activities or discussions. An individual with a learning difficulty should be dealt in the way that will prevent embarrassment in front of his peers. Special assignments or discussions may be given to help him catch up.

Learning should not just end within the classroom. Give meaningful assignments and projects that will reinforce learning outside the classroom. For difficult concepts, such as math, chemistry or physics, explain to your students how these concepts can be applied in daily life or in business.
