By Steve Alexander

Mediterranean resorts offer a variety of fun activities to enjoy when the mood takes you. So don't just spend your holiday sat on the sun lounger - get out there and keep active!

The party scene is one reason why many Mediterranean holidaymakers are in the area. A host of vibrant bars and restaurants can be found in Protaras, many of which stay open into the small hours. If it's serious clubbing you're looking for though, why not take a taxi to the nearby resort of Ayia Napa? It may not be clean living but it's great exercise! You'll find a host of clubs and bars where 24-hour party people congregate to dance the night away.

Although many sun-worshippers flock to the glittering Aegean playground of Kusadasi, there are also plenty of sights to explore while you stretch your legs and work up an appetite for the next meal. One of the most beautiful and best preserves sites of the ancient world is without doubt, the historic city of Ephesus, which dates back to 3000 BC. The Greeks, Romans, Lydians and even the legendary Amazons have all left traces of their civilization and mythology here.

If exploring ancient monuments sounds a bit too much like hard work, you can treat your body as a temple by booking a traditional Turkish bath, or hamam. Hot and cold pools, massage, treatments for face and body are all available, and the time-honoured rituals will leave you looking as glowing as you feel.

Scuba diving is not available at all Mediterranean resorts, but it certainly is at Mykonos. There are introductory courses available if you've never dived before that will allow you to explore beneath those sapphire waters safely during the course of your holiday. Underwater photography, night diving, deep diving and other advanced skills are all available for experienced divers who want to get to grips with underwater photography. Snorkelling is also an easy way to get to know the world beneath the surface of the sea. if you prefer staying close to the surface.
