Building Garden Fountains Made Easy

By Alyssa McCall

With the modern hectic life, anyone would want to come home and be welcomed by peaceful garden fountains. The sound of birds chirping, brooks babbling and of cause that breeze blowing, is very relaxing and heart consoling. It is possible to spend lots of money to enjoy this sort of luxury but you do not need to if you can build your own right at your backyard or at the gate. You can build your own fountain by following these simple guidelines.

Begin by planning your design. Decide where the spring will be located and the size you want because all these will determine the materials you will need to purchase. The fountain will have three main elements for it to work efficiently. A reservoir, a water pump and an architectural or design feature.

For safety and convenience reasons, it is crucial to have these structures near an electrical power outlet. It can be dangerous to pull electricity cables without consulting the power supply authorities. Fixing long electricity cables can be expensive and destructive to other structures and plants in your farm.

The water storage equipment or the reservoir can be anything that is a tight container and can hold water such as a plastic tub. Consider making the reservoir as part of the design especially if you are planning to have it above the ground. Pumps can be bought from many sources like the home improvement stores or landscape supplies shops. Always buy pumps that have enough power for the fountain to flow. The power of a machine is usually measured in gallons per second. It is important to consult an expert with these machines since they vary from one model to another.

Pipes are supposed to send water from the reservoir to the fountain. The quality of these products should not jeopardize the beauty of the structure or neither should they be of low quality. The pipe may not be a major concern since most manufacturers sell pumps with pipes. You can modify it to fit into your design though. Remember that the work of the pump is only to deliver water to the fountain and the how it does it is your own design.

After having everything in place, it is time to assemble your parts to become a fountain. Those that intend to have the supply of water from underground will need to dig a hole that fits in the reservoir. Structures that are located far away from the electrical power point will need extra cables that will also require digging of a trench. Digging for the longer cables and the reservoir should be separate to avoid electric shots.

Fit the pump correctly as directed. All the pipes need to be fitted well. If you have a design of your own, ensure that the entire flow is coordinated without leakages. Go creative and play around with the design of the spring.

Fill your garden fountains with water and ignite the pump. You can go an extra mile with lights and other decorative elements for aesthetics. Learn how to make your backyard look beautiful without spending too much.
