Why Choosing Laminate Floor Installation Is A Good Idea For Any Workplace Or Home

By Paulette Short

One of the interesting new materials people are using for floors in many businesses and homes is laminate flooring. Using diverse designs it could be made to mimic wood flooring, marble flooring, tile flooring or anything in-between them. Generally laminate floor installation is inexpensive and will not need to be stained, finished or nailed . Due to its method of construction it is resistant to scratches, , denting, stains and color fading.

Generally laminate can be bought in many different colors and styles. Because of this great versatility it can be mass produced to mimic many more expensive types of woods and wood grains. It can also be put down right over the top of many other flooring types with very little prep work and no curing time. For these reasons it has become a mainstay in home decorating applications for people who want to upgrade their floors.

Many laminates still use a little wood inside them. Typically they are constructed with several different layers which have been heat bonded together using glue, heat and incredible amounts of pressure. The top part is made from a clear layer made of aluminum oxide. This thin layer is resistant to stains and chips to protect any layers under it.

The next part is a colored layer that is made from a resin based facsimile of the tile or wood people want it to resemble. It is commonly a pressed composite material constructed from aluminum oxide and melamine mixed with various pigments for different colors. While it generally is not as strong as the top coating it holds up very well to prolonged UV exposure and sunlight.

The bottom is constructed from a simple composite layer of dense fiber board that has been soaked in a resin to make it even stronger and more moisture resistant. This rests on the resin backing which has adhesive applied to it. These many layers are pressed together after they are sprayed with a thin layer of glue with heat and pressure applied to flash cure them to one single piece of material. Then an adhesive is sprayed on the bottom and backing paper applied.

These natural fibers have the ability to expand and contract with any humidity changes in the room they are in. They are also intentionally made with tongue and groove pressed into the sides to connect them all together into one solid piece. While they do have an adhesive backing, they are not meant to be solidly attached to the floor.

Installing them is as simple as removing the backing, lining them up to the ones beside where it will be going, and dropping it in. Remember that any tongue and grooves must be locked in as well. Most floor polishes work well on them and can be applied shortly after they have been put down.

They basically rest on top of the sub-floors, floating if they start to expand or contract with temperature or humidity changes. A laminate floor installation is generally not recommended for bathrooms or laundry rooms. These modern marvels may be used in most every other type of room.
