Child Abduction Awareness Is Every Caretakers Responsibility

By Nora Jennings

There have been so many children taken that it seems impossible that anyone could be unaware of the danger. Every day a little one is taken from a seemingly safe place. It seems useful to take in all the news stories because child abduction awareness can make some of these horrendous kidnappings impossible.

In a recent case a mother ran into a grocery store to buy one item. She left her young daughter in the car because the weather was very cold. Five minutes later she returned to find her little girl gone. In a matter of minutes she had been abducted.

Parents routinely leave a child in the car while they run in to carry out a baby in his portable car seat. The car is in their own driveway, just feet away from the house. Still, it only takes a minute for an opportunistic pervert to take advantage of the situation.

It happens faster than imaginable. In more than one case a little girl starts home from school with friends. She disappears somewhere between school and her home.

Every day seems to dawn on a new kidnapping. Older children can be given instructions on how to obstruct one of these perverts. Do not walk close to a strangers car. Some predators ask for directions and pretend they cannot hear the answer. If the child moves close enough, the stranger can reach out and grab him or her.

Second, if a stranger grabs them, make as much noise as possible to attract attention. Scream, kick and do anything to get away. Third, never listen to what a stranger tells them. The kindest looking woman or man may be a kidnapper.

But, the smartest child under a certain age can be fooled. A stranger might look sad and ask them to help find a lost puppy. Someone they have seen while with a parent may convince the child to accept a ride home.

There are valuable precautions in place to keep children safe. None are released from school with anyone but the approved caretaker. A parent closes and locks windows at night.

Recently, women who were abducted as girls have managed to escape their captors. Some spent a decade as a virtual prisoner of the predator. If they tried to escape he may have threatened to kill their parents or beaten them severely.

Any witness to an abduction should call the police right away. Try to memorize or write down the license plate details. Make note of the color of the vehicle and what the abductor looks like.

The legal system seems to be favoring the predator in some cases. A sexual predator will repeat the offense in ninety-nine percent of all cases. A psychiatrist might be brought in to testify that he is rehabilitated.

The reality is that any gambler can place odds on how soon he will abduct and rape another innocent child. Parents and other caretakers may take all precautions to no avail. How many more little ones must be abducted before the laws are revised to prevent the rights of the pervert to supercede the rights of the innocent.
