You have probably seen an interior or exterior wall covered in greenery in design magazines and home and garden journals. It may have been something you really admired, but thought you would never be able to put one together. Many are very intricate and contain exotic looking plants. They don't have to be complicated however. Stamford living walls can be constructed with simple designs and plants and flowers you pick up at the local nursery.

People grow plants in their homes for a variety of reasons. They look good and are an inexpensive way to decorate. They also create oxygen and clean the air. A vertical garden has the added benefits of buffering sound, insulating your living area, which helps keep energy costs down, and creating a soundproof barrier.

If your patio or balcony is small, building a living wall is a great way to add color and plants without giving up space. An interior wall filled with nature will be a very dramatic addition to your room design. You must be careful however, that the area you choose to put the wall on has adequate sunlight.

You will have to decide is who is going to build your wall and what the dimensions will be. If you are handy with a hammer and nails, you might want to try doing it yourself. They do not have to be complicated designs. You can probably find instructions on the internet that you can adapt. It may be possible to purchase one already constructed from a design or home improvement store.

The plants you choose to include in your wall will be critical. You may want to work with a nursery to help you select the best plants for the climate and the amount of sun available. You will also want plants that thrive all year long for the core of your design. Annuals can be added throughout the seasons and then removed as they begin to die out.

Natural walls do take work to keep them healthy and growing over time. This is especially true if your wall is a focal point in one of the interior rooms. Plants have to be watered and pruned regularly. You will have to spray them with an insecticide periodically as well. When the frame is attached to the house, it must be not touch the wall of your home because mold and mildew can take hold.

The price of living walls will vary wildly depending on the size of it, the complexity of the design and the number and kind of plants you choose to incorporate into it. None of them are cheap, but you can keep the cost down by doing as much of the work as possible yourself and utilizing common plants that are easy to grow.

There are many ways to live a natural, organic life that is also filled with the conveniences of current technology. Living walls can be a bridge between the two worlds.
