What To Expect From A Marine Transport Service

By Shirley Williams

If you are lucky enough to have a boat, you probably have many options for recreational use of it. From traveling to fishing to feed your family, or even just swimming and snorkeling in the middle of a waterway, you will get lots of use from it. However, at some point it may need repairs or you simply need to move it from one marina to another. Try utilizing the services of a Marine Transport company for this.

These services may only serve you if your vessel is a certain size, while others take on any size, big or small. Even if it is a huge yacht or a tiny jet ski, there is no limit to the size for several companies. You just have to make sure they have the appropriately sized equipment for whatever your needs are.

The distance usually does not matter for the larger companies as well. While some will only do local or intrastate moves, many others will allow you to move the boat across an entire ocean to a completely different continent if need be. If you need repairs done on the vessel, they can take it to the shop then deliver it back to its slip as soon as the work is finished.

In order to undertake a move of any distance and do it yourself, you would have to acquire a special commercial drivers license and a hydraulic lift at a minimum. This is hard and expensive to do, which is why you should really just go ahead and hire a professional business to take care of all of it for you, as they already have the equipment.

Even once your vessel is lifted onto the trailer, there is still plenty of work to be done. The weight must be evenly distributed in order to ensure that it stays stable on the trailer during transport. If not, it could cause seriously damage to the ship.

There is no doubt that each step of preparing for the move is important and can be costly or catastrophic if they are done improperly. That is why you should check that the movers are a solid and experienced company with a good reputation. They should also have liability coverage for land and sea of at least a million dollars, or whatever the cost of your boat is at a bare minimum to cover both yourself and their business in case the unthinkable happens.

The cost of the move will depends on the distance of the transport and the weight and size of your boat. You can call or write for an estimate, but be ready with plenty of information. They will need to know the maker and model of the boat, the length, weight and possibly other info as well before a good estimate can be made.

After finding a company who can handle your move and is within your budget, you can commit to a contract as soon as a timeline and final delivery or arrival date is confirmed. Now you will be well on your way to getting your boat where it needs to be, and you did not have to invest in a bunch of equipment that you would only use once anyways.
