By Henry Turner

As loved one s age it gets harder and health wise things start to deteriorate. You obviously want to find ways to make things less stressful and easier for them. Alzheimer care can be made a little simpler so that you can both cope and deal with the illness. There are a few steps you will need to follow, mental health fundraiser PA is there to help your loved one keep their dignity and not feel hopeless.

The first order of business is to develop some kind of routine, something you maintain and stick to. They are likely to find things easier to do if they know the schedule. Don t be random or try to get too creative, you should schedule all the more complex activities for earlier on. Give them some sense of control and dignity.

Never rush or speed through anything when dealing with kind of person. You should stretch your time a bit, make peace with the fact that you have to take time. You should also allow them a break in between activities as well. Work with their pace and help them accomplish what they need to in that time. Practice a lot of patience and understanding.

Don t just assume that you should just do everything on their behalf. There are some activities you need to let them do on their own. Choose the simple tasks, like for example getting dressed. To get them going, you may lay everything out on the bed. From there they will take the clothing and put it on. Should you notice that they are struggling, you may give them cues.

They will struggle with focus, and there are ways you can help solve that problem. Turn off anything that feels like a distraction in the house. You don t need the radio and the television to be on at the same time. You can just choose one to be on at a certain time of the day. These can be very distracting especially when you are trying to communicate something. So maybe some television during their leisure time.

If you are to get anything done, you must find a better way of communicating. Remember that now things take longer than they used to on top of that they are elderly. You need to issue instructions one by one and not rush through explaining things. You want them to completely understand what you are saying and do it. So break things down if you have to just to ensure that they are on the same page.

While making every decision for them might help you move things along. It is not wise, you should involve them in the decisions they can still make. Like choosing the color of an outfit for the day, the kind of shampoo they would like. There isn t a need for many options, just between two. Their morning beverage can be a hot coffee or cold orange juice depending on the choice they make.

You are still caring for a person and an individual. They need to feel like they can still control certain aspects. They need to be a part of what happens daily and this is your responsibility. Every now and again you can do something spontaneous. Instead of switching on the radio, play the guitar, it is still music but it is different.
