Loft conversions and a few of the finer points

By Carol Murray

There are many questions and concerns that people have over home renovations. When it comes to a loft conversion in East London, it is necessary to consider all aspects of the build before going ahead with the development. One of the first things homeowners ask is whether their loft can be converted.

It may be true that not all lofts are eligible for this type of development, but there is no need to ponder on this. The specialists can arrange for a surveyor to visit your home and make an assessment of the situation. You will soon know whether the project can go ahead, once the feasibility study has been done.

Once it has been established that your property is indeed suitable for such a development, you can then start to think about the different types there are available. What you may decide to do with the additional space can also depend on the room you have to be converted.

You may wish to create two rooms, or opt for an ensuite. These choices can be discussed with the structural engineer who will be designing the new space. Other options you will need to think on include the windows and whether to go with a roof light, a dormer or a combination of the two.

Drawings will be made of the plans, which will be well-prepared by the loft experts as all sorts of structural calculations will have to be made. This is in order to ensure compliance with the building regulations currently in place. The experienced team will explain the process to you from the outset.

This work will usually take five to six weeks until completion. This is with an average sized home though so it can vary. The practicalities of the situation can be discussed with the loft conversion professionals. They will look to ensure that your home life is not disrupted too much by the development.
