Important Basics Regarding Hotel Toiletries

By Tia Giles

Hotel is the establishment that provides people with short-term room and board. Along with a bed and room to stay in, individuals may have access to hotel guest amenities and hotel toiletries. In general, these are known to vary based on the establishment.

An amenity is considered an extra. These may be available inside or outside of the room. In generally, these are available with stays at motels, hotels and other lodging facilities. At some places, amenities come standard, or complimentary, with a room. At others, they are only available to those willing to pay the extra cost.

The products that are needed for grooming or dressing are known as toiletries. These come in most hotel rooms and extras are usually available by request. Irons, hair dryers, soap, shower caps, shampoo, towels and ironing boards are the most basic items available at these lodging establishments.

Guests may choose to use what is provided or their own personal items that they have packed. Toiletries are most beneficial to those who have run out or forgotten the things they need to get ready. Luxury, and other high-end establishments may provide cotton swabs, floss, toothbrushes, shaving cream, mouthwash, bath salts, nail kits, vanity packs, sewing kits, lotions and other special products. Most people do not select a facility based solely on its available toiletries. Still, it can be convenient to have these products available, particularly when a guest is traveling far from home.

Inside amenities available will vary. Some lodging places offer kitchens so that guests can cook and store food during their stay. These may come in the form of kitchenettes, which typically include a refrigerator, stove, oven and some cabinets. These small kitchens are most common at extended-stay establishments. Others facilities may have small refrigerators, coffeemakers and microwave ovens in the rooms.

Internet and television are popular and common amenities. Usually a TV is available in all rooms. Internet access typically comes in the form of Wi-Fi, which customers are able to access through their own personal computer, tablet or phone. Often the service is free, but there might be a small fee. Guests who do not have their computers with them may be permitted to use a computer available in a special hotel room or lobby. In more recent years, hotels have started to provide tablets for customer use.

Extras that are available outside of the room can be accessed by all guests. These amenities include, but are not limited to: vending machines, dining, pools and recreation. There are usually several options when it comes to dining. Vending machines are placed all around the property, allowing guests access to snacks and soft drinks at all times of the day. Many places provide guests with complimentary breakfast or they may have their own restaurants on the property where individuals can dine.

A hotel is a business that offers temporary lodging to individuals. Typically the customers are people who are away from home, often on vacation. Each establishment is different and some offer more than others. Check to see what an establishment has to offer before booking a room. Hotel toiletries and amenities are designed to give guests a comfortable stay, as they include the basic necessities for day-to-day life.
