Choosing Natural Body Care Products

By Gloria Mason

There are numerous brands available that offer cleaner skin, remove blackheads, revitalization and so forth. Increasingly though more people are concerned about the effect of artificial ingredients and are looking for other options. Fortunately there are a number of ways to find Natural Body Care Products.

The difficulty is in sourcing items that are genuinely made using natural ingredients as opposed to looking like they are. There is nothing to legally stop someone putting a picture of fruit or a tree onto a label to make it appear that an item comes from a natural source. However this can be misleading as it may contain artificial ingredients.

Generally the cheapest brands will tend to use additives. A common reason is that they are used to extend the shelf life or remove bacteria. Unfortunately this also means that they can dry out the skin. Some studies have suggested that using certain additives can increase the risk of cancer although research into this is ongoing.

It may be tempting to ask what is wrong with using something that has artificially sourced ingredients. Some studies have made the suggestion that artificial additives such as sodium laurel sulphates may increase the risk of cancer. However these studies are relatively new and ongoing so it is premature to reach a firm conclusion on this.

There is also concern that artificial ingredients can potentially aggravate allergic reactions and chronic conditions that can be caused by allergic reactions. Research has suggested that certain additives can result in inflammation. This increases the risk of triggering asthma and skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema. While studies are ongoing it is better to be cautious.

Another concern people have with brands is whether or not they test on animals which a number of people consider to be unnecessary and cruel. The labeling should clearly state whether or not animals have been used to test a product. With naturally sourced items it is less likely that any tested on humans will be harmful as they are more likely to be more gentle than a chemical based brand. Any company that states they do not test on animals needs to be able to prove this and there ought to be some kind of official certification to back up any claim made on labeling.

As well as ensuring that a brand is ethical quality is still important. You want to ensure that what you are buying is value for money. While it is likely that you will pay more for an organic brand you will often get better long term benefit from choosing this ahead of larger scale manufacturers.

In simple terms there are plenty of benefits to using Natural Body Care Products. These can be available online, in stores or via local street fairs and exhibitions. Look online for more information about what is available in your local area and to get feedback on the best brands and producers.
