More About The Child Abuse Hotline

By Eloise Hewitt

Knowing where to turn to when you are small is never easy. However, the child abuse hotline is something that is growing all the time and one must keep on educating the public by giving talks in schools so everyone is aware of this. This helps children who are in desperate need of some sort of help because of something going on in the home.

Unfortunately this does happen, and this day and age one can see that it is becoming more and more of a problem. It is not only the parents that are at fault. Often it is a relative or a family friend who is the culprit. A parent will be trusting of them and allow their kids to be looked after by them. One does not often see these things coming.

These people have been well trained and are experienced in what they do. Speaking to someone on the phone is like speaking to a counselor or a therapist. The only difference is that they won't be asking you your name, but if they find the situation to be severe, they will encourage the child to take the next step.

However, on the phone, they don't have to give the person their name or phone number. The person on the other side has no idea who they are, so this is why this method seems to feel a lot safer for them. People who work at a clinic and answer phones have also been well trained to know how to handle anything.

Adult children of alcoholics as well as drug addicts are those whose parents used to drink. It can be harmful on a person if they have not been in therapy and they have been in a situation like this. They develop personality issues and have problems with their relationships. This is why it is essential that this should not drag on into the adult years.

There are also different forms of emotional abuse, which one comes across. Often this is found in the homes of children where parents drink a lot and the next morning they don't remember anything. They may be sweet and loving the next morning. This can be very confusing. It can interfere with their whole lifestyle.

There are many children who have been threatened and have been told not to tell anyone else about their situation. Schools need to brief them about this and inform them that this is a safe hotline. Therapists on the other side of the line will make children feel comforted and secure.

They have been trained to assess the situation and encourage them to take the next step, should they feel that it is necessary to do so. They can only do this once they have had a deep enough of a conversation with the child because only then can one go further. It is important to create a bond and a bit of relationship so that trust is formed.
