Mistakes Made When Using Roach Control Products

By Tammie Caldwell

Nearly everyone wants to live in a home that is free from cockroaches. However, even though they might spend money on roach control products there are certain mistakes made which can cause these tools to be ineffective. Here is a look at the mistakes that are made when using these products which can cause these insects to take up residence in the home.

Using a product that does not work is a mistake that many can make when trying to get rid of cockroaches. There are quite a number of tools on the market which are used indoors and outdoors. They can come in the form of dust, sprays, granules, and traps, but if a person is not well informed they might simply use any of them thinking that they will get results.

Today, baits are one of the most effective tools to use because once the cockroaches eat them, they return to the nest and are eaten by other roaches when they die. This puts an end to the entire population located in the home. Baits come in three main forms like gels, solids, and liquids. Dust is also effective for the same reason.

Another mistake that is made is not putting the baits or dust in the right areas. Baits should be placed where the insects have been seen. It is most likely that they will return to the same area. Dust should be placed in hidden areas like under appliances like stoves and other places that are hard to reach like crevices.

While these chemicals are quite effective, they cannot be used on their own. One has to remember that a home contains factors like food and water that attract these insects in the first place. If the home is not clean or if one lives in a building where the neighbor does not keep their place clean, roaches are more than likely to find a way into the home.

One has to also make sure that they do have any bits of food lying around. This will invite the roaches to come in since they are looking for food. They also look for water which is even more important to them. They will build nests in areas where there is water available like near leaking pipes, drains, or anywhere water is available.

Cockroaches can also enter the home through items like cardboard boxes. So a person should do what they can to make sure that what they are bringing into the home is not carrying these insects. Household repairs should also be done to prevent any roaches from entering the home since they can easily come through cracks, and windows or doors that do not close completely.

These are some of the mistakes made when homeowners are trying to get rid of roaches. It is important to make every effort to educate yourself about what is available to get the job done. Talking to a professional is a great way to get the right information since they are in the field and know from first hand what works and what doesn't.
