Fun Winter Crafts for Kids

By Autumn Lockwood

When the winter weather is blustery, sometimes it is simply way too chilly to move outside and play. Whenever your child gets bored or restless when he or she cannot go outdoors, then spending a special afternoon making some fun craft projects may well be a perfect way to pass some time. You will be able to keep the child entertained and happy for hours using some inexpensive materials that you are able to discover in your home. The very next time your youngster complains that "there's nothing fun to do," take out some easy and inexpensive craft projects.

Create an Indoor Blizzard

Kids of every age will surely have fun making a variety of folded paper snowflakes using inexpensive white printer paper and some safety scissors. As a matter of fact, if you don't have any white paper you can also make your snowflakes using old newspaper. Just as is the situation with real snowflakes, you can make paper snowflakes with an unending number of sizes, shapes and designs.

To produce a paper snowflake, start with a square shaped piece of paper. Fold the square in half diagonally by bringing one of the bottom corners up and match the opposite corner at the top of the square. You will have before you a sizable triangle. Fold this large triangle in half, forming a lesser triangle. Lay the small triangle on the table, having the tip pointing down. Fold one side of your triangle over, then fold the other side over, so that you end up with a shape that is a third as big as your original small triangle, with a "V" shape at the very top. Make use of your scissors to cut the "V" shape off, which will form the six-sided outline for the snowflake. Then, use the scissors to cut small notches and shapes into the two side edges. If desired, you can also cut off the end of your triangle, thus creating a hole in the center of the snowflake. When done, unfold to see your distinct snowflake shape. If you create enough snowflakes, it is possible to tape them on all your windows to create an indoor blizzard visible from outside your house. A different way to use just a couple of snowflakes would be to glue them onto some blue paper and display them in picture frames and make use of them as indoor decorations.

Cotton Ball Snowmen

If the weather conditions are way too chilly to venture outside to create a snowman, try making one indoors using cotton balls. You simply need some white cotton balls, and some accessories to decorate with, like small beads, pipe cleaners, and construction paper. Begin by fluffing up several individual cotton balls so you can roll them together into a larger ball. Glue the ball on a sheet of white construction paper. Now, create two more balls which are a little bit smaller compared to the first one. Using craft glue, fasten the balls together using a snowman shape. You may glue on small bead eyes, mouth and buttons. You can use some construction paper or a little bit of orange pipe cleaner as the nose, along with a little bit of yarn or a striped pipe cleaner will make a great scarf. They can make charming decorations when they're displayed in picture frames, so make certain you snap some pictures.

So you should enjoy those long winter days when you are stuck inside by creating some easy and inexpensive craft projects.
