How Social Media Networking Has Offered Free Marketing

By Rob Sutter

There's a lot that can be said about social media networking, especially when it relates to a number of businesses. Away from work, I am an avid gamer and I pride myself on keeping up with all of the news that comes down the pipeline. This goes for just about any company in the world but my focus, as of now, will remain on Nintendo for the time being. The reason for this is because there seems to have been one recent story that has sparked the attention of many.

Masahiro Sakurai, who has been behind Super Smash Bros. since the beginning, said that the latest entry in the series would not have cutscenes or even a full-fledged story mode. This choice baffled a number of people, to say the least, but he basically said that he did not want the experience to be hampered by anyone. With clips being uploaded onto YouTube rather quickly, it seemed like he didn't want the first impressions to become ruined. This was not exactly a popular decision, as you could imagine.

Fans have been very vocal on the matter, issuing a number of predictions as to why Sakurai made this excuse to the fans. There are those who believe that part of this comes from maintaining resources and not wanting to go over budget. What about adding more features to the game itself in order for it to stand out to an even greater extent than before? It's very hard to say whether or not laziness could have been a factor in Sakurai's aforementioned decision.

To me, it sounds like Nintendo is doing anything it can to take away any free advertising that the next Super Smash Bros. game would have. You have to keep in mind that a consumer shilling your products is important for the sake of marketing, as firms such as fishbat can tell you. Nintendo has to keep its social media networking efforts high, so why go about this particular action? It's one that I cannot see making much sense and I don't know what the creators were thinking upon making the choice.

Nintendo needs all of the free advertising that it can get and you can say the same for just about any other company in the realm of gaming as well. However, this one is arguably the greatest and it's tough to argue against the sheer magnitude it possesses. When stories like this spring to the surface, they serve as potential reasons for people to have not to purchase these games. This title can still sell amazingly but not without a couple of examples of controversy to be seen.
