Nursing home abuse cases in Canada are on the rise and this is a worrying trend. The news is full of many such cases where the elderly are denied food, physically abused or even sexually harassed by the staff in the nursing home. There have been plenty of lawsuits to regarding the same and this has received a lot of media coverage helping with personal injury lawyer.

These cases are not accidental or remote and they are reported among the many Canadians old people who live in these homes. Some many cases are reported because they are all over the country and witness in almost every home of the elderly and the helpless people. One would ask him/herself why this is happening in todays society, or why the world is becoming a cruel place for the elderly or the helpless to live in and to live in fear.

Some families take action and try to record what happens to their loved ones at the facilities. In most cases they are shocked due to what they witness in terms of cruelty. They get recordings which include rudeness, use of bad language towards the elderly to the extent of experiencing them being beaten up.

A classic action lawsuit was set up in 2003 against senior care homes in Quebec and this was concluded in 2013. In a huge settlement, the families of the elderly in those senior care homes, most of whom had since died, were given $7 million to share as compensation. This partly helped them cope with their situations.

In a view of this fact, there have been more occurrences than before and they are happening everyday and more often. One of the ways to address this issue is in case you are a witness to this abuse, you should tell the director of the relevant facility, and if they do not take any action report it to the health ministry. Going to the media with proof is another way of taking responsibility.

A case which has gone to the press was one for Camille, the care givers was seen on tape molesting the elderly lady. They were seen mocking and waving dirty sheets on her face. The hospital administration did not handle the situation appropriately. The son involved the local press and a case was filed in a court of law.

Abuse cases should not be tolerated whatsoever. This is especially crucial for the next few years since most baby boomers will be in their old age and so senior care homes will have increased numbers. Some states like Ontario have passed a senior care facility bill of rights and so lawsuits are relatively easier here. Senior rest abuse cases should be a thing of the past as they are a symbol of all that is wrong in our society.
