Bhagavad Gita, the Timeless Spiritual Book
Hindus think about Kurukshetra war as a crucial turning point in Mahabharata. It was during this war that, Lord Krishna, leaving his force to Kaurava side, became the charioteer of Pandava prince Arjuna. Krishna had actually given the option to choose him or his force, to both the sides. Duryodhana chose Lord Krishna's force and prince Arjuna chose Lord Krishna. Prince Arjuna is advised by Lord Krishna about the truths, in this important war. These truths are together called as Bhagavat Gita.
Gita.
The main message of Gita is the advises given by Krishna to prince Arjuna as he was very perplexed about involving in a combat with his companions, elders and teachers. Krishna speaks about the duties he has to perform in the role of a warrior and a prince. He also explains on karma and dharma. The spiritual text contains many philosophies, analogies and instances. By showing Vishwarupa, Lord Krishna disclosed his true identity of being the ultimate power in this universe, in Kurukshetra war. Lord Krishna tells prince Arjuna that Kurukshetra war is a Dharma Yudha, meaning a combat to let Dharma prevail.
The five main truths of life, as explained in Gita, are Ishwara, Prakriti, Kaala, Dharma and Jiva. Ishwara means the supreme controller of this world. World functions by Prakriti, which is the intelligence. It is on this base that beings are created. Kaala is the time or the age. Binding together different forces in universe is Dharma.
Bhagavat Gita basically gives emphasis on the idea that one has to grow beyond the physical weaknesses of self and identify oneself with the eternal soul. Bhagavat Gita is a part of the Hindu epic Mahabharata and it contains a total of 700 verses.
