Visit The Three Sisters At Katoomba

By Anton Maverick

It's as well you are travelling in your Campervan Hire Australia auto, because there are just so many striking things to see while you are driving thru the Blue Mountains. One stop should definitely be at Echo Point in Katoomba, where you'll see an Australian iconic sight, namely The Three Sisters. This is potentially the most spectacular formation in the Blue Mountains.

As well as spectacular, it's also one of Australia's most visited attractions. Regardless of how many people see it, or how often you yourself see it, it maintains the WOW factor. So what's the 3 Sisters? A rock formation, even though it a spectacularly unusual one. Each rock represents a 'sister ' and they decline in height. The WOW includes their size with the eldest sister being just about 1000 metres high.

Aboriginal legend holds that three sisters were turned to stone by a witchdoctor, to save them from ending up in hot water by marrying 3 bros from a prohibited clan. Nevertheless unfortunately for the witchdoctor, he died. It was also unlucky for the sisters who stayed as stones because the sorcery for turning the stones into girls again, died with the witchdoctor. So how can you not go to see them now?

The stone sisters have character, which changes thru the day and also through the 4 seasons. Different angles of the sun on the rocks, brings out a mess of colours and yes, the colours and personality of the rock is a magnet to artists. Solely to provide one more opportunity to see the sisters in another way, they are floodlit till 11.00 pm every night.

The tallest sister is 922 metres tall, the second 922 and the 3rd is 906 metres tall. By any standard, that is large, and they do look superb. They are also beautiful. In any case as to how they were formed, they present a unique spectacle in an astonishing location.
