Finding the Right Preschool for Your Child

By Franklin Skribbit

Shopping around to find the perfect preschool for your child can be nerve wracking. There are many parents that have a difficult time deciding on a preschool because they do not know what they should be looking for when they are shopping around.

The hard part is determining how much material to cover and how best to present it so that the kids learn. What can pre-k teachers do to create lesson plans for preschool students effectively?

Here are a few guidelines to follow when you're overwhelmed about the preschool decision. It is important that you take time to think about how you're feeling about your child starting preschool.

Essentially, you want to see the plan that each preschool has to ensure that the school is working to enhance the social, intellectual, emotional and cognitive development of each child. Between schools you may find that curriculum varies but this should always be the goal.

Now not everyone will always agree on a single theme. If that happens to you, you'll have to find 2 or 3 general themes that can reach most of your class. Reteach the same concept according to those themes to help that part of the class understand as well. Finding out what they like doesn't have to be hard either.

Visiting the actual location and talking to the teachers and caregivers at each preschool with help give you an idea of which preschool will be best for your child. Many preschools will let you observe their classes and playtime, and let your child play and see if they fit in and like it.

Getting to know the staff as well as you can before you decide on a preschool can also be beneficial. The adults that are a part of the staff will be spending a lot of time with your children and you may want to know a little bit about them.

From being around their parents 24 hours a day to spending 25 plus a week in a classroom with a new adult and other kids their own age, they have a lot to figure out. Remember that they need opportunities to investigate new things.

Oftentimes your intuition and gut feeling will help you decide which preschool will be best for your child. The facts about the preschool should also influence your decision as well. In order to best prepare your child for preschool, try to get them excited to go. The night before their first day of preschool, remind them in a happy way that they get to go to preschool the following day.

Although it can be overwhelming to start looking for a preschool for your child, you will want to make sure that you tackle this head on. Sometimes, enrollment at the best schools will fill very quickly and you will want to be on top of the ball.

Make activities and visual lessons a normal part of their classroom experience. Lesson plans for preschool students will go so much better if the students can see how things work visually. Creatively create lesson plans that integrate personalized themes with object lessons to teach principles. Children will respond much easier to these aspects of the lessons.
