The Best South America Vacation Destinations

By Bertulda Zerna

For a tremendous holiday break that gives you both plenty to see and plenty to do, it is hard to better the southern half of the Americas. In point of fact, a large number of terrific South America vacation destinations exist to be taken advantage of. Such locations include those outlined in the paragraphs that follow.

For starters, a perfect setting for a perfectly good break is Rio de Janiero in Brazil. Blending the cultures of the Europeans, the Americans and the Africans into a heady Brazilian mix provides you with a beautiful and cultural place. Much natural beauty can be appreciated here as well.

The Tijuca National Park, where the Corcovado is located, is one prime example of that natural beauty. And it is part of the natural scenery that surrounds the city, from the surrounding sea to the mountains around the area. Overall, Rio de Janiero is one spot you will have no regrets about visiting.

Buenos Aires, located in Argentina, is another Latino locale that should prove attractive. It is widely viewed as the Paris of the southern Americas, servicing as an affordable place for artists and traders to live. And from this sentence the comparison with Paris should be clear.

Due to this appeal, the city has poured much investment into removing its slums and facilitating development. Now the old abandoned warehouses have been replaced with art studios, restaurants and hotels. Restaurants in particular do make up a key part of the night life, due to Argentinians' predilection for eating late.

In contrast to these places, quite a few people are put off by the idea of taking a trip to Santiago, located in Chile. It is easy to see why this is the case upon first glance. This is because the city center is polluted with smog, and that is not many holiday makers idea of a good place to go.

But if horizons are broadened beyond the city center, then much enjoyment can be found. In the Barrio Brasil quarter, say, one will find an antiquated bohemian area that boasts artistic talent to rival Buenos Aires. Rio de Janiero's scenery can also be given a run for its money by the Andes mountains that lie on the city's east.

For the pure naturalist, though, the Galapagos Islands to the west of Ecuador cannot be beaten. These islands were the place Charles Darwin went to on the HMS Beagle during the 19th century when studying nature. And the wildlife here was the inspiration for his evolutionary ideas.

As well as the amount of fauna and flora around this archipelago, a lot of animals inhabit these islands. Lizards, seals, sea lions, crabs and iguanas survive and thrive here. That this lovely and remote area should inspire Darwin should not surprise anyone.

To sum up, several of the greatest South America vacation destinations can be seen from the above paragraphs quite easily. The continent generally ranks higher than most places for a good holiday. But keep the locations listed above in mind if you want to get a lot out of being here.
