Vital Facts On The Many Health Benefits Of Not Smoking

By Toby Antonias

Drug addiction has ensnared many people, without a way of getting out of it. It often starts as an ordinary habit, but ends up in a more serious problem. There are many health benefits of not smoking that should be a source of inspiration to those who want to kick the habit. Other people will also benefit if drug taking is reduced or eradicated. Health lobby groups are putting pressure on authorities, to institute measures to control the effects of tobacco.

Though the effects of not giving up smoking are well known to many people, the behavior is rampant in the world. Young people have taken this behavior out of peer pressure, and before they realize it, they are enslaved by tobacco addiction. Women too are known to be smokers, yet the effect on their health is much more serious especially when they are expectant.

Consumers of tobacco have high blood pressure than non-smokers. The heart rate is higher on those hooked to the trend. Once a person quits taking drugs, there is a decrease in the blood pressure within a few hours. Many people have died suddenly due to the rise in blood pressure that leads to cardiac arrest.

Nicotine, which is the addictive element in the blood, has it levels lowered within hours of leaving this habit. If a person is able to bear the cravings, it will take about three days for the body to be rid of all the nicotine. The longer a person has been in the habit; the longer time will be required in giving up this habit completely.

Oxygen circulation among smokers is hampered by the nicotine in the blood. Thus the heart is forced to work more, which raises the chances of a heart attack. Stopping smoking for about one year can lower the risk of a heart attack by half. The blood will have less nicotine which allows the heart to work normally.

Lung cancer is more common in smokers than in other people. The risk of this disease can be lowered by about half if the efforts to abstain are continued for about five years. Smokers ignore the effects of the disease till it is too late. High medical costs are paid by tobacco addicts, in an attempt to turn the tide of smoking effects. Premature death is also a common result of tobacco use.

Death is not avoidable, but it can be delayed by avoiding some of the habits that contribute to premature deaths. A person wishing to kick the habit should be disciplined and determined to achieve the desired results. If necessary, you will have to alter your lifestyle. You will need all the support from friends and relatives who care about you.

Non-smokers also suffer the effects of tobacco use through passive smoking. These people will also have the health benefits of not smoking, if the smokers change their habits. Efforts are being made all over the globe to safeguard all from the effects of using tobacco. Taking drugs in public is done in designated places, where smokers are free to use tobacco. A lot more needs to be done, in order to make more gains on the well-being of the world population.
