Some Information On Carbohydrates And Heart Disease Risk In Women

By Vincent Pham

The recent study that was carried out on the link between carbohydrates and heart disease risk in women has shown that there is an absolute direct link between the two. The results show that the chances of developing heart disease can actually be doubled when compared to men doing the exact same thing.

It actually just involves carbohydrates which are known as refined carbohydrates and these can be easily noticed if you look at the glycaemic index as they have a higher number and this is what shows you have a higher risk of heart disease. Basically the higher the number the quicker the glucose is released into your body which of course means you have a real rush of blood sugar as a result of this.

If you eat food such as white bread and white rice then the GI number is high with those and this means that it releases certain triglycerides which actually reduce the amount of good cholesterol that the body produces. Bad cholesterol is what is responsible for heart disease so if it is not being countered by the good it can easily build up.

The study involved thousands of both men and women and it was clear evidence that this really did just affect females. The conclusion therefore is that for some reason a womans body is unable to process this surge in glucose in the same way as a man which is then leading to problems with heart disease.

The best thing to therefore do in order to lower your chances is to spend some time learning about the GI of different foods and this can be found on tables. You should try and have a diet where you mostly eat things at the lower end as do remember that your body does need carbohydrates to function but at least it is not going to alter the good cholesterol.

It does not take too much of a change in your diet to therefore lower the risks and while a lot of medical studies may appear to just use scare tactics do consider that it did involve thousands of women. It is certainly not worthwhile taking the chance not when it comes to health and there is a known history of heart disease in your family.
