By Steven Jones

This manuscript is a follow on containing more summertime driving points from Reklaw Automotive Cranbourne.

Battery:

One of the leading reasons for roadside Problems is the battery. Check the battery electrolyte is up to the proper level by taking off the battery caps and looking inside. The most typical battery type today are maintenance free batteries. Maintenance free batteries have sealed caps and do not require any checking. But some batteries say maintenance free but do have removable caps. These should be checked in the typical demeanour. Ultimately, check the battery to see that there are not cracks or holes in the battery casing itself. If the battery is 3 or four years of age , consider replacing it.

Brakes:

If you hear any grinding noises or feel strange vibrations when you apply the brakes, or if the car pulls to one side, take the vehicle in for a comprehensive check up. It would be a brilliant idea simply to have your brakes looked at to be sure they will not need replacing 1,000 miles into your trip.

Cooling System:

Sustained road speed driving and hot summers days combine to put plenty of stress on an engine's cooling system. If your vehicles is using traditional coolant and has not been flushed for 2 years, now is a superb time to do it. If it has extended life coolant go with the manufacturers advocated change intervals. If this interval happens during the trip, do it now. The cooling system should be refilled with the correct coolant. Don't top up with just plain water. If the system needs to be flushed, bring it in to Reklaw Automotive Cranbourne

Air-conditioning:

Ensure your car's heating and A/C is working properly. Run it for some time in each of its operating modes and check that the airflow is coming from all acceptable vents. If the A/C system takes an inordinately long time to cool the inside of the car, or if the air never gets cold enough, the system doubtless should be checked for leaks

Tyres:

Maintain correct tyre pressures, not only will this make the auto ride correctly on the road but also improves braking and increases fuel use.

And finally, not only can a pre-trip inspection help to reduce odds of costly and potentially threatening road difficulty, it also provides a chance to have required repairs finished with your Reklaw Automotive Expert who knows your vehicle.
