Acne is an inflammatory disorder of the sebaceous glands in which these glands enlarge to produce excess sebum which is an oily substance. The clogged oil in the skin pores provide nourishment to the already dwelling bacteria called P. acnes which multiplies in number. In response to this multiplied number of bacteria, the white blood cells of the blood begin their role resulting in pus formation, inflammation which is outwardly visible as redness and blemishes.

The soul cause for the development of acne is excess of oil secretion and improper hygiene conditions like leaving the face unwashed for long and allowing the oil or sweat salts to settle on the skin which increases the microbial activity. Thus aiming the cause of acne will ultimately help in treating acne.

So the first goal is to maintain good hygiene, it can be done by washing face immediately after you sweat and mere splashing of plain water on face 4 to 5 times a day will also help in washing away the excess oils from the skin. Incase you have a very oily skin a mild face wash or a cleanser is suitable, which can be used twice a day to clean the face off with excess oil. Make sure you do not over wash your face as this leads to secretion of more oil to compensate for the dry or scaly skin which is obtained due to over washing. Also over washing of face may leave the skin dry and scaly thus result in flawed and poor skin tone.

Apart from hygiene, simple remedies such as face packs and scrubs made up of natural ingredients prove to be helpful and no doubt they can be quickly be prepared right in your house. Such as a less concentrated lemon juice can be applied on acne with cotton, or honey mixed with cinnamon can also be used, tea tree oil is one more option as it has antiseptic properties, mint leaves or strawberry leaves too can be crushed to obtain its juice and can be applied on acne. You will see your acne healing if one of these tips is followed. Also few medicated soaps or gels can be used for daily maintenance and acne cure. Products having a 5% component of Benzoyl peroxide in them help in cleaning the excess sebum secreted by the sebaceous glands thereby helping in reducing the microbial effect.

The second major cause for acne is hormonal imbalances. Hormonal imbalances are usually seen in adolescents and women very commonly as they undergo various changes .Women undergo multiple phases of changes due to their menstruation cycles, pregnancies and menopause. During this course there is a lot of hormonal imbalance which affects the group of hormones called androgens which directs the enlargement of sebaceous glands under the influence of testosterone activity, leading to secretion of excess oils. This ultimately leads to form acne. Hence to treat hormonal acne, treatment must be taken for the cause of hormonal imbalance along with proper hygiene and use of medicated soaps or gels will help in acne cure.
