Construction Sector Contractors Stand to Benefit from Solar Panels in Bulk Project Deals

By Nathan Thompson

Solar is a emerging construction market as demand continues to increase and costs decline. There are many factors that are contributing to the trend for homeowners to include photovoltaic (PV) panels in their home architecture designs. The growth of the industry has made the products more available in most areas. Training on installation is also readily available through centers and online courses. Government regulations in construction also have been modernized to include the systems in code requirements.

Photovoltaic cells are used in panels that are most often seen on top of houses. The cells provide a direct transference of the suns energy to electricity. Over time, the manufacture of these cells has moved from discovery to experimental to mainstream production. Mass producing them provides a lower cost per cell.

With a growth rate of over 30 percent per year for the last twenty years, the systems have become very well known. The massive growth of this industry has pushed for better manufacturing processes that can make the products easy to install, standard, and lower in cost. Rather than custom ordering the product, builders are now able to receive standardized sets that can be used in any project.

The declining costs make the products more appealing to people of all income levels. The original systems had to be customer built or ordered. This caused some difficulty in the installation because each system may be different. Having to schedule this carefully to be sure the materials arrived on time was difficult and often caused delays in the building time line. Specialized training was necessary to hook these into regular switch boxes for the home.

Popularity in green solutions has exploded. The world shifted from oil and coal based energy production towards solar based. The renewable energy has grown in popularity as people became aware of ongoing pollution problems. The movement has swept the world and included many different governments. Other factors have fueled the popularity such as higher energy costs, incentives, and responsible citizen programs.

As energy costs have increased, people have been moved to consider alternative solutions. The cost of traditionally generated electricity has put pressure on people's wallets causing them to look for cheaper ways to get the same power. Through green energy, they not only have cheaper electricity but also in many cases can sell excess back to the power company producing a revenue stream.

Incentive programs provided by national, state, and local governments also push for renewable energy. The installation costs are often subsidized through tax rebates for homes that include the panels in their energy plans. The consumer and builder are both able to benefit from these incentives. The shift by governments is happening on a global scale with markets emerging everywhere.

The cost of traditional energy has turned the tide on the demand for alternative energy. Green energy popularity means solar is a emerging construction market. After twenty years of unflinching demand, the costs are lower now than ever before. While many people look at the change as being responsible towards the environment, the fact remains that the lower costs and subsidized installation makes this a very attractive energy alternative.
