Money For Old PCs

By Michael Raja

There's been a massive rise in corporations offering to recycle your old cellphones for cash. This is a good idea for folk who have a few cell-phones knocking around in their drawer somewhere.

However a corresponding scheme has turned up for old PCs. The grounds remains the same: you put in the model number into the internet site, and they give you a price, subject to survey. You post it, they approve it, job done. It's that simple.

However it isn't all peachy. Those internet sites appear to offer you a significantly lower price for them then if you had sold it yourself. Presumably this is because of the fact that there could be for more things that might undoubtedly mess up with a portable computer then with a mobile phone. This still does not excuse paying out up to 5 times less than if you were to sell it yourself.

The prices also change significantly between sites. Occasionally, you might find the price that being offer for your portable computer could be double the offer presented to you at the last site. Then there's also the issue of your private data. None of the current batch of portable computer trade-in sites has given any specifics about what they do to your info when they receive your laptop computer.

So are there possible choices? Well, if you want to get the most for your cash, then you are much better off selling it yourself on auction websites like eBay or even advertising it on Gumtree. This technique also makes allowance for you to price your device accurately, especially if you have upgraded it or bought the non-base model.

So if you've an old laptop that you suspect could be hard to sell, or your IT support team has a pile of old ones in their office, maybe now is a very good time to try out those internet sites and see whether you are pleased with the offer price. If not, it is usually possible to get a lower price by auctioning it online.
