A Mini Refrigerator Is A Handy Holiday Item

By Rosemarie Harrell

Consumers who travel have seen at least one kind of mini refrigerator while staying in hotels. Many guest rooms come with mini bars which have been filled with spirits and perhaps a bottle of fizzy water or a lemon. Others are slightly bigger and useful in a self-contained suite.

These are just two different styles. One is ideal for keeping a pint of milk, some yogurt pots, and a salad. The other will only hold a few small bottles, many of which will have to be kept on their side. They are cheap to run and to buy when compared with full-sized appliances.

Some families opt to purchase slightly larger versions which are kept in the garage or basement. This acts as an overflow-fridges for storing items not associated with everyday meals so there is no freezer compartment, keeping energy costs lower than with your everyday machine. If you are expecting company during the summer, extra perishables and beverages will go here. Line-up hot dogs for unexpected visitors plus all of the condiments they like best.

Individuals with their own games rooms might stock a bar here too. While the spirits remain at room temperature, cocktail mixers and cider will need to be cool. The table is set for poker or the balls arranged for pool. When a guest wants his cold beer he does not have to go to the kitchen and disturb the rest of the household.

This appliance is often very small, sometimes just big enough to stock six cans. It might be upright or open from the front. Some of these models will also be designed to show a company logo while certain fun versions are designed in the shape of a can or an old-fashioned vending machine.

A wine rack shelf provides the depth for full-sized bottles. Set the thermostat to keep liquids to their appropriate temperature if you do not have a cellar. The outer shell might be stainless steel or even hardwood. Some models fit neatly under a kitchen counter. A glass door displays the contents. In a commercial setting, shop keepers can use these to showcase juices and energy drinks too.

A portable mini refrigerator will make a difference to your picnics. Instead of freezing cooler inserts, just plug this machine into your car lighter. Take all of the foods you used to leave behind for fear that they would get too warm such as chicken and egg salad.
