All knitters have surely read a review of Cascade 220 Wool, and have included this yarn in their collection of materials, and if they haven't they ought to try it. The yarn is suitable for a multitude of tasks and comes in a huge number of exciting colors and blends. From infant clothes to blankets, gloves, scarf and hat sets and stylish sweaters for adults, the possibilities are endless with this versatile yarn.

It is a worsted weight yarn made from 100% pure Peruvian wool. It comes in 100gm balls, each one containing a generous 220 yards of knitting yarn, which normally can be knitted 4 or 5 stitches to every inch. There are amazingly well over 200 colors available, some single some dual and some multiple.

Cascade 220 is also available as a Superwash yarn. The standard Cascade wool is not machine washable and this means its use can be limited. It is time consuming to hand wash garments and it would be impractical to put knitted clothes on a baby because of staining. This Superwash version can be put in the machine on a cool wash and even tumble dried on a low heat, making it much more appropriate for everyday use.

To make the yarn un-shrinkable, a treatment of the fibers is done, either by coating them with a type of polymer or soaking them in acid. The effect of both methods is that this causes failure of the fibers to link together which is what happens with shrinkage. This makes knitted items much more practical for babies and small children.

Both the Superwash and standard yarns come in the sub groups of Paints and Quatro. Paints offer a selection of yarns in a number of colors that change shade as you progress with your knitting. Quatro is a yarn made up of threads of different colors or shades, giving a regular mottled effect, both are most attractive.

Superwash Sport, standard Sport and Fingering are other variations on offer. The 220 Fingering group offer a finer thread for more delicate knitting, which results in 7 or maybe 8 stitches per inch. It is available in a wide range of colors but seems to have a bigger selection of blues, pinks and greens.

The 220 Yarn is visibly fuzzy and fluffy, however, the Superwash version is smoother, though shows signs of fuzziness if you examine closely. Both are great to work with and make the perfect yarn for a wide range of creations. Many beginners have commented on this yarn, as it is strong and easy to work with.

This is by no means the cheapest yarn you can buy, but it is one of the most reliable and easy to use, it is free of problems, such as splitting thread or pilling, and is great for beginners. Your garment will retain its shape after endless washes. Do your own review of Cascade 220 Wool; put it on your knitting needles and produce knitwear that will look great now and well into the future.
