Support Or Sponsor An Orphan Child

By Gloria Gardner

When one lives among opportunity and privilege, it can be difficult to remember that others in the world are not so lucky. Millions of people live without proper shelter, have no education, and struggle for food from day to day. A huge number of these impoverished people tend to be children, many of whom have lost one or both parents. If you are blessed with a little money to spare, you may want to sponsor an orphan child.

Children in third world countries have an exceptionally high need for sponsors. There are many organizations that will make these types of matches. Living in developing countries comes with many obstacles including lack of resources. Kids might be living on the streets or in temporary housing and probably have not been attending school. In some areas, there are simply no schools while in others, even the young ones are needed for work and cannot attend.

Children that have lost their parents have a unique situation. Orphanages often do not have sufficient resources to provide for the high volume of children they tend to. Living with distant relatives is also difficult as they probably have their own children to care for. In either case, the need is dire.

A breakdown of how the money is spent can be found on any organization's website. Top priorities include housing, food, and clothing. Other vitals include things these kids may have never experienced before such as medical service and clean water. And, above all, the goal is for the cycle of poverty to be broken. Money will be used to send the little ones to school.

In America, orphans can also be sponsored. The cost of this sponsorship might be slightly higher due to the higher cost of living in the United States. There are other bonuses though. For example, you may be able to visit with your kid or write letters back and forth more easily.

Being able to sponsor an orphan child is an incredible gift for both the sponsor and children in need. You can give the opportunity for a better life to a fellow human being.
