The Mystery of Migraine Headaches and Why They Happen

By Athena Hunter

It can be a fair guess that all people has encountered the discomfort of a headache. But of course there are headaches, and then there are migraine headaches which are different. I understand the intense pain of migaines because I used to put up with, terribly, from them during a young age. I am so grateful they stopped simply because they were exceptionally painful. It is somewhat fascinating that headaches, and specifically migraines, are not completely understood by the medical community. Everything is clouded and unclear by the simple fact that people do not feel headaches, and pain, all the exact same way. This really is a tremendously involved area, and it seems doctors have a long way to search before a clear picture emerges.

However, just like with numerous topics in medical science, a lot is known about migraine headaches. This sort of headache is occasionally known as a vascular headache. Seemingly either very low as well as high temperatures may encourage a migraine occurrence. Deprivation of sleep or becoming particularly hungry can bring one of these crippling headaches to the forefront. The same as with so many other medical issues, there are certain triggers that seem to influence this condition. Another cause for a migraine can be extreme and chronic amounts of stress.

Pertaining to the overwhelming pain, migraines are distinct because the pain seems to take much longer to build up. Of course that can lead them to examine certain areas which could be fruitful. These discoveries just seem to be more pieces to the complete puzzle. There could perhaps be a genetic factor involved, however that does not seem to include all migraine sufferers. On the other hand, genetics is not associated with everybody, and so that is one more facet that has to be taken into account.

For women, there may be a connection with hormone variations and migraines. In fact, incidences of migraines have been noted during the times just before or after the menstrual cycle takes place. Estrogen does not remain stable at these situations for women. Additional periods of hormone variations involve menopause and obviously pregnancy. A number of women will likely have a greater frequency of migraine attacks during these periods. The severity of a migraine can be made worse for some if they undertake replacement therapy for hormones. Conversely, all of those experiences do not materialize to all women who are afflicted by migraines.

Other additional migraine precursors consist of overpowering odors from practically anything plus bright lights or loud music. Doctors are unable to ascertain the exact mechanism that leads to someone suffering from a migraine. Some people can get them from physical activities that tend to be more than what that person normally gets. So there's still a long way to go before this health problem is understood and properly treated.
